- Helium is a rare gas widely used in modern industry. It is indispensable in the fields of nuclear magnetic resonance, aerospace and semiconductors. And because helium is the only truly non-renewable natural resource on the earth, helium is listed as a global Strategic material, which is why helium is called golden gas.
- More than 90% of my country's helium supply mainly relies on imports, which has long been restricted by the West. In addition, due to the immature technology for refining helium in the early years and the surge in helium demand in recent years but limited reserves, the development of some fields has become "stuck". Facing the severe situation, it is urgent to independently accelerate resource exploration and strengthen technological breakthroughs.
- The discovery of high-concentration helium associated gas reservoirs and the launch of efficient helium extraction technology have finally ushered in the era of "autonomous breathing"! At present, the Weihe Basin in China is rich in helium and has broad mining prospects. Sichuan, Qaidam, and Songliao basins also have significant helium resource exploitation potential. The helium extraction equipment developed has been successfully used in Haishiwan Coal Mine, which has rare coalbed methane resources and is rich in helium components that are rare in China. The helium purification broke the record and the purity exceeded 99.999%, which was a great success, opening up a new direction for subsequent helium research. Now the Chinese Academy of Sciences is working hard to develop new technologies: membrane separation coupled with low-temperature adsorption, a new helium extraction technology based on low-temperature separation, which can not only reduce the cost of helium extraction, but also improve the extraction efficiency. Sichuan's first helium extraction demonstration project has been put into operation, with an expected annual output of 5 million cubic meters. It has taken a key step towards helium autonomy and has achieved initial results in its industrial layout.
